Founder Anna O' Gara has a background in care and neuroscience, with a lot of theoretical understanding and training about epilepsy. But being thrown into supporting people with epilepsy in residential care settings during the pandemic made all of that go out of the window. Anna identified two deep challenges.
First in Anna’s immediate care provision, the shock and heightened emotions while supporting the individual to remain safe and communicating to colleagues meant that when it came to writing it up in the seizure records at the end of their shift, there were significant gaps in what they remembered.
Then, clinicians often required specific information to make informed decisions in terms of diagnosis and prescription of medication and frequently at the end of strained discussion they asked, “can you just collect a bit of video footage on your phone?”. And this is where Carpe Care comes in as the UK’s first and only all in one system that bridges the gap between care providers and clinicians.
